Welcome to the latest edition of my weekly newsletter.
Today I want to talk with you about a technique that has huge potential for
helping you promote your business, no matter what business you are advertising.
The subject is forum advertising. Many online discussion
forums allow either direct ad posting, or a slightly more subtle approach
through the use of a signature file. Either way, the links you post in forums
are quickly picked up by the search engines and that increases your website’s
popularity and brings you more business.
I would like you to try a little experiment. Go to
http://www.google.com/ and type the following into the search box:
links: verag3.veretekk.com and hit the enter
key. NOTE: My example here is my Veretekk website. You may substitute any
website you like. The results of the search will give you all the places online
where Google found your link.
Now, you know where your site is already listed. Go to a
few forums or blogs and post a link to your site. Wait a few days and then try
the experiment again. I think you will be pleasantly surprised to find your
postings showing up.
Please be careful to follow the posting rules of the forum
you are on. Not every forum allows advertising. Many allow signature files. Some
do not allow advertising at all. Read the rules first. To find forums, just go
to Google and search for “forum advertising” and you will find pages and pages
of them.

Google PageRank refers to the number and weighting of links from
other websites.
Google considers the more websites that refer (link) to another
website / domain, the more relevant that domain must be to a certain topic.
However, it is not just the amount, or volume of links that is important –
the quality of those links is also relevant. For example, if you have a link
from website “U” which has a Google PageRank of 8, this will be ranked much
higher than if you have four links from four different websites, “W”, “X”,
“Y”, “Z”, all with
Google PageRanks of 3. The scale goes from 1-10, the higher the

Avoiding Banners and Direct Email Campaigns
There are a number of ways to maximize your profits and often they have
nothing to do with increasing revenue. Case in point, if you are pulling in
$1,000 a week in your internet business and spending $1,100 you are losing
$100 and if you are pulling in $400 and spending $300 you are making a $100
profit. Sadly, many people look at the person "earning" $1,000 as successful
despite the fact that this person is overspending with little result. Such
is the case when it comes to online marketing and the traditional banner
advertisements and email campaigns of prior years.
Yes, at one time these methods of advertising were successful ways of
drawing in a potential buyer. Placing a low cost banner advertisement on a
website leads drew great attention to products in the past. Ditto email
marketing which essentially took the age old concept of direct mail
marketing and made it electronic. Times, however, have changed and these
methods of marketing - while still somewhat useful - really can no longer be
the strategic basis of a marketing campaign.
With banner advertisements the actual purchases on "click throughs" have
diminished. Also, the number of people clicking on banners has diminished as
well. Part of the reason for this is that people have become wary of the
spyware intrusions that banner ads often bring. For email marketing, it was
overexposure that killed the beast. Essentially, people have become tired of
receiving absurd amounts of "spam" emails everyday and this has led to
greatly tuning out on advertisers who use such campaigns. This is to say
nothing of the increased costs of dealing with bulk email marketing
providers.
One can simply take a test of their own daily internet activity to prove
that these methods no longer work as effectively. People spend more time on
social networking sites like
Facebook and Myspace and video sharing sites like
YouTube than reading through emails or clicking on banner ads. This
alone is proof that the internet is moving in a different direction to which
there are no signs of turning back. People are searching for content, and it
makes far more sense to advertise for little to no cost on these types of
sites versus paying thousands for outdated methods.
The landscape of internet marketing
has changed greatly from prior years. These days, it would be far more
effective to look into search engine optimization, blog advertising et al
for ones online marketing needs. Economics simply dictate as such.

Often lead generation is associated with marketing activity targeted at generating sales opportunities for a company's sales force. Therefore a lead is correctly described as information regarding or provided by a consumer that may be interested in making a purchase. Whereas, generation is one of a myriad of activities that may produce that information and perceived interest10.

What is Web 2.0
Web 2.0 is a common term bandied about these days that refers to a new way of
creating websites, content, and business on the Internet. The exact meaning of
the term is often debated hotly among Internet gurus, but essentially, it refers
to the online trend toward websites that use social networking, wikis, and blogs
to connect with the wider community online.
Tags are an important part of “web 2.0,” as this is how knowledge and
information is linked together and organized. Many experts believe that this
type of online connectivity has been around since the beginning of the Internet
- after all, what is the Internet but a vast array of interconnected computers
all sharing information? The term, however, is usually brought up in
conversation as a way to speak about where the Internet seems to be heading in
the future.
You can see examples of web 2.0 all over the Internet. YouTube is a good
example. People post videos on YouTube, place tags on each post relating to the
content of the video, and share the video with countless other people online.
Users can subscribe to this person’s “channel,” get placed on their friends’
list, have a conversation about the subject with other users and the original
poster, and share their own videos with world. The videos created can be shared
and posted on other sites as well.
Blogs follow a similar format, with continuous posts that readers can comment
on if they have something to contribute to the conversation.
Social networking sites, such as Facebook, are based on the premise of
connecting with other people who are related to you in some way. Once you’re
connected, it’s easy to share information freely with other people in your
network.
Other examples of web 2.0 include Digg (a news sharing site), MySpace,
Squidoo, Gather, and Technorati.
There are many others that already exist and many more to come. So how does
all this relate to Internet business? Simply, online business is moving towards
web 2.0 strategies as far as online marketing goes. It’s important that
companies keep up with the trends and stay ahead of the game, or they may fall
off the radar screen as everyone else pushes forward.
If you’ve ever heard of the term “viral,” you already know where web 2.0 is
headed. The viral nature of marketing is what will carry businesses as web 2.0
becomes more prominent and complex. Word of mouth and reputation are already
becoming more important, so it pays to get the right information about your
company out into the public sphere if you want to gain new customers and keep
current ones loyal.
Internet marketers can harness this new way of spreading information in
positive ways – it’s a very powerful Internet marketing tool that hasn’t yet
reached its full potential. Web 2.0 is fast becoming the best and most effective
way to drive traffic to your site and increase search engine rankings. My
